Understanding Nature and Meditation
'By discovering nature you discover yourself '
Maxime Lagace
Welcome to my Learn to Meditate Journey.
I have a profound love of nature and an equally profound love of meditation.
Both bring me into a beautiful place of love and peace and I have discovered after many years of meditating myself and teaching meditation that the connection we make with nature outside of us is the same as the connection we make within us in meditation.
I wanted to share this connection with you so that you can experience all the joy, peace, inner calm, clarity, strength and feeling of being alive, vital and free that both being in nature and meditating brings. When the two are combined and we meditate in nature the only way I can describe the experience is, it is 'Awesome'.
Over the next few weeks together we will be learning about and practising meditation through a connection with nature. When you truly connect with nature you experience a deep inner peace, you breathe in the wonderful energy and find yourself relaxing, allowing the stress of daily living to melt away. You can connect with this same inner peace when you retreat from the world and go deep into meditation. Through simple techniques meditation reconnects you with a place of peace and stillness that resides within you and gives you the opportunity to connect with a deeper aspect of yourself, a truth within you.
This truth or essence I call your True Self
When you watch a sunset or climb to the top of a mountain and witness the awesome view or watch the flight of a bird; these moments take your breath away. In this moment you stand transfixed by beauty and in this moment it is your truth or your authentic true self that is watching and standing in awe. You are mindful and present, able to see the world as it is in all its wonder, splendour and infinite beauty.
In this moment of awe you have removed the lens through which you usually view the world that colours your perception and you see the world as it is, full of beauty, truth and goodness. When you see the world this way it is the beauty, truth and goodness within you that is connecting with the beauty, truth and goodness you are witnessing. You are not focused on the thoughts in your mind, but simply enjoying an awareness of and a connection with life.
When you go deep into meditation and learn to detach from your thoughts and simply observe them, they fade into the background and you enjoy a connection with the part of you that watches your thoughts, realising you are not your thoughts, you are this conscious awareness and in this moment you connect with your true Self.
You are present, aware, mindful and not focused on a mind full of thoughts. Meditation naturally creates an experience of mindfulness in everyday life and trains your mind to be present.
I will explore these ideas in more detail in later lectures but for now, I simply want to say well done, you have embarked upon a journey of the heart and I am honoured you have chosen to explore learning to meditate and take your understanding of meditation deeper. It will be one of the most life changing choices you have ever made and I trust that like me you will come to cherish your meditation time and give thanks every day for the benefits it will bring in your life.
